# Number-Chasing CRO

## Description

The Number-Chasing CRO runs the revenue organization at a growth-stage company that while it’s seeing sales growth, it’s not fast enough, and the gap between actual and target revenue is becoming hard to ignore. This Sales leader suspects messaging is part of the problem: reps are inconsistent in how they tell the story, deals stall on objections that never get resolved the same way twice, and the go-to-market messaging "story" often doesn't convert enough prospects to real buyer interest. This often creates tension between the sales and marketing orgs. These CRO types don't have time for theories; they need to know, quickly and with data, which messages, talk tracks, and story pitches are actually correlated with prospects and deals moving forward and closing — so they can scale what works, fix or retrain what doesn't, and stop losing winnable deals to a story problem instead of a product problem.

Defining Characteristics:
- Identifying which specific messages and objection-handling responses correlate with higher win rates and faster deal velocity
- Finding and closing the gap between the marketing-shaped intended story and what's actually said (or missed) in live rep conversations
- Participating in an evidence-based feedback loop to marketing instead of one-off, anecdotal complaints and opinion debates about messaging
- Pinpointing which unresolved objections are stalling deals in the current pipeline, right now, not last quarter, that messaging can help remedy
- Making the case internally and at the board level, with data, for why a revenue shortfall is (or isn't) a messaging and story issue that needs to be addressed with a refreshed narrative
- Replicating what top-performing reps say differently across the rest of the sales team
- Works at a U.S.-headquartered B2B growth-stage software/tech company (100–2,000 employees, $30M–$200M ARR or Series B–E) with an established but scaling revenue organization
